Our Mission
Security deposit retention is the single most common legal dispute between residential landlords and tenants across the United States. Many landlords improperly deduct for ordinary wear and tear, routine turnover cleaning, or aged paint because individual tenants lack easy access to formal statutory citations and demand templates.
Tenant Defense Letters was created to level the playing field by providing a free, 100% private, client-side document generator that incorporates exact state statutes, return deadlines, required itemization rules, and statutory bad-faith penalty warnings.
Statutory Methodology
Our state legal database is compiled directly from official state legislative codes (such as the California Civil Code, Texas Property Code, New York General Obligations Law, Florida Statutes, Pennsylvania Landlord and Tenant Act, Illinois Compiled Statutes, and Michigan Compiled Laws). We continuously review statutory changes and court jurisdictional caps to ensure ongoing accuracy.
